Manchester United returned to winning ways when they hosted Everton last weekend, but were undone by Turkish opponents Besiktas in midweek. On the other hand, Avram Grant will be in charge of his first game as manager of Portsmouth. Coincidentally, the former Chelsea manager’s first game in English football was against United as well when the Red Devils beat Chelsea 2-0.
United should have Rooney and Berbatov back in the squad after sitting out the Champions League game in midweek, while Brown and Vidic are expected to start again. For Portsmouth, James is a major doubt, with Ashdown expected to continue in goal.
Even thought Fratton Park has traditionally been a ground United find hard to win at, they should be able to get all three points here this time with a 2-0 score line.
