Manchester United suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Everton at the weekend which allowed Chelsea to move four points clear at the top of the table. United cannot afford to drop any more points and a win here would put pressure back on Chelsea to get a result against Manchester City on Saturday. West Ham, on the other hand, head into this game of the back of two successive wins in the Premier League.
For United, both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are pushing for starts having returned from suspension and injury, respectively. With the Carling Cup final on the weekend, Sir Alex Ferguson would surely make some changes. This means that Michael Owen, who admitted that his chances of going to the World Cup in the summer are looking bleak, could start. The Hammers will be without striker Benni McCarthy, who is suffering from a knee injury, though this should not affect them too much due to the good form of Carlton Cole.
I think that United will bounce back from their weekend defeat and win 2-0.
